Tremors scarf

I

Named after the Classic Kevin Bacon movie, this scarf resembles the giant sand monsters terrorizing a rural American town in the early 1990's.

I got this yarn second hand, and I don't know what it's called, but there was a lot of it. It is a lace weight wool- I cast on 120 stitches on size 10 circulars and just knit and knit forever and ever. It is about 9 feet long, and has a papery feel.

Big a** pearl stitches

What to do whith uneven knit and pearl stitches??

Look how the stitches on the left sock in the middle of the foot are way different than the right! That is because my pearls stitches are way looser than my knits. I corrected this on the right sock by pearling continental style , that seems to make it all even. Another way to bring consistency to this problem is to use a smaller needle for pearl rows. I could have gone back and fixed the left sock- but I have chosen to embrace these imperfections.

bauhaus socks in yellow and grey

Bauhaus Socks in Yellow and grey

I used nature spun sports weight yarn from brown sheep company- made in USA! I used one skein of impasse yellow, and one skein of charcoal, but I would suggest having two skeins of your main color.

Needles; 2.75 mm dpn (5 needles)

Cast on 52 stitches second color(grey) divide 13 stitches per needle, onto 4 needles.

K1, p1 in the round for 8 rows.

Tie off grey yarn and switch to main color(yellow) continue to knit in the round, all K stitches for 6 inches.

Heel:

Leave 2 needles with 13 stitches each in front, and just work back two needles.
Tie on grey yarn, knit 26 stitches ( 2 needles).  then turn, and pearl 26 stitches.
Continue knit a row, pearl a row for 2 inches . Bind off. Fold in half so both ends of Bo row are touching and sew up with a needle.

Go back to those stitches you left on the front two needles in your pain color. K 1 row, picking up a stitch from the second color (grey )heel at the first stitch and last stitch of your row. Then pearl a row, also picking up a stitch at the beginning and end of your rows from the heel. Continue alternating K and P rows back and forth, always picking up the first and last stitch until you have made 13 rows, have 26 stitches on each needle, and reached the end of your heel.

Bring it all back around!
Move 13 stitches off each needle , so once again you have 4 needles, 13 stitches, in your main color ( yellow). K in the round  until you are 1" away from how long you want the sock to be.
You can figure this length out by trying it on your foot and guessing, or measuring like a perfectionist or something.

Total length of foot
- 2" for heel
-1" for toe
-----------------
= length you knit in the round with main color until you begin to shape the toe.

This will be about 6" for a women's sock.

Begin to shape the toe:
Tie off main color and switch to second color again. ( grey) k 3 rows.
Stop where you have 2 needles with 13 stitches each on top, and 2 needles with 13 stitches each on the bottom. Knit 2 stitches together (k2tog) at begging of top row, knit the rest of the needle, knit other top needle, (k2tog) at the end. Same for the bottom stitches.
You should be decreasing 4 stitchesevery time  around.
Continue with this decreasing pattern until there are 4 stitches on each needle.
Bind off and sew up toe with a sewing needle.

Make a second sock.
Then you'll have a pair of socks.

This is the first pattern I've ever written. Are my descriptive explanations amazing? If you have any questions please email me.
