Rainbow Satiated Boot Socks

Sometimes you just need to knit with rainbow yarn. In the winter if you wear anything but black or grey around here, you get a bunch of dirty looks. This liberty light yarn is a refreshing fix of color! I would like totes like to make more stuff with this yarn. It is like a magic metaphysical
 journey.

Survivalist slouch hat

Sideways knit. Simple. Awesome.

Here in Portland, when it snows- the whole city shuts down. Snow day! People are cross country skiing in the street- and i am greatfull for all the warm stuff I knit.

Survivalist slouchy hat.
I used wool, Classy Dream in Color  Black Pearl
I knit this on a pair of size 5 needles, with worsted weight yarn- for a super tight knit that is not gunna let on the cold.
The yarn I used is a hand died wool. I have made this yarn with some antique wool acrylic blend yarn made in post ww2 Germany for a super durable- weird smelling hat that is super warm.

Cast on 70 stitches
Knit one row
Knit 55 stitches, then turn slip a stitch and knit row
Knit 56 stitches then turn , slip a stitch and knit row
Knit 57 stitches then turn, slip a stitch and knit row
Continue on like this, knitting one past where you knit before, turn and knit rest of row until you have knit 70.
Repeat this 5 times.
Bind off.
Sew up sides with mattress stitch.
Put on your head.
Really warm.

Grey hand warmers

I knit these with scrap yarn, it felt about the weight of manos del Uruguay - nice slightly unevenly spun wool in a pretty grey. I want more of it- like 10 skeins! But I just had a little bit so I made these hand warmers- and just in time for the epic portlandia snow storm of 2014!

This pattern is great for scrap yarn, about a half or a third of a skein. Take what you have and wind it into two equal size balls, so you know how much you have for each mitten.

I knit them on a size 6 needle- so it's a tight knit.
Cast on 30 and knit 6 rows.
Make 1 at start of 7th row then knit the rest of the row.
Knit the 8th row .
Make 1 at the beginning of the 9th row then knit the rest of the row.
K 20 rows or till it's where you want your thumb hole.
Knit 4, cast off 6, knit the rest of the row.
Knit till cast off stitches, cast on another 3, then knit rest of the row.
Knit until you run out of yarn or it is long enough that it covers your fingers to the nuckle.
Bind off, leaving enough of a tail to sew up the side with mattress stitch.

Make another one. Make sure you see them up so one has the thumb hole on the right, the other on the left. The seam should go up the palm side of the hand. If one is backwards, just turn it inside out.
