I used this pattern;

But, as I hate purling- I just replaced the purl stitches with knit stitches. I am pleased with the results. 

I did not use the very beautiful $60 worth of silk wrapped paper habu suggested- instead I used a lace weight white cotton and doubled it with sewing thread for lengths- changing the color or not using thread in places created the stripes. 

the novelty of an unusual yarn- but a cheap thrill.
